John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell) awakens alone in a strange hotel to find he is wanted for a series of brutal murders. His memories have vanished and even his beautiful wife, Emma (Jennifer Connelly) has become estranged from him. So begins a quest to unravel the mysteries of his pact; a quest that will take him into a fiendish underworld where he is relentlessly pursued by the police and a gang of shadow-like beings known as the Strangers and where only the sinister Doctor Schreber (Keifer Sutherland) is able to help him.

I first saw Dark City when at Uni in '99 and ended up driving my housemates mad as I tended to watch it when i got in from the pub most weekends!
The film is directed by Alex Proyas and anyone who knows film will know that Alex also directed the original Crow movie. However, contrary to someone else's comment, not once when watching this did I think it was anything like "The Crow".
The film is dark, broody, witty and intelligent. Rufus Sewell is excellent and a little creepy and even Jennifer Connelly does a good job with the difficult script and story!
Talking about the story! Keep with it! It is a little confusing at the start as the viewer is not quite sure what kind of film it really is!!! Is it Film noir? Is it a crime drama? whatever you want to call it, Dark City is simply excellent and different.
Just try to ignore the fact that some of the sets resemble the Crystal maze!!!
Excellent film..... Buy it now!
A classic.

I love this film, it's fast becoming a classic, if not already.
Just because your system is set up wrong, or your brain had to work when watching the film, doesn't mean it deserves 1 star.
Well worth the buy in my honest opinion.
See It!

This film actually came out a year before The Matrix, so it can hardly be accused of being a cheap Matrix rip off. Furthermore, anyone looking for an all action sfx packed blockbuster like The Matrix or its sequels should look elsewhere anyway. However, if an excellent sci fi film noir with good sfx, and a plot that makes you think & wonder whats coming next is more want you want, then I can only recommend Dark City. It really is one of those films that rewards you the more times you see it. Highly recommended!
