If your looking for a shaun of the dead type of film i proberbly wouldnt recommend this, yes it is a horror comedy and pretty funny at that but like movie addict id say its a bit darker than shaun of the dead and i would compare it to severance but this only gets 3 stars because it all seems a bit rushed once they meet the ugly farmer, the bloke with the glasses had me in stitches the whole way through as did jennifer ellison who really suprised me but apart from those 2 performances and the spade scene,it was all a bit over the place

If you liked Dog Soldiers and Severence you will like this bloody slice of horror and comedy. The film twists and turns from a kidnapping gone wrong thriller to a Yorkshire Chainsaw Massacre.
Although the balance between the scares and laughs sometimes do become unbalanced, but the film overcomes any stumbling blocks by great performances by Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith. But the biggest suprise comes from an amazing foul mouthed performance by Jennifer Ellison, and she proves she has more to offer than being a FHM pin-up. The film turns into one big gory bloodbath, but some how no matter how horrible the acts you can't help laughing along with it.
I really did enjoy this bit of blood shed.
Well worth watching, but as some of the other reviews state, it will be loved or loathed.
Bloody, side, mouth, gut and foot splitting funny!
Better than expected

I really didn't expect much from this but it's a real funny, gore'fest. Highly recommend this, plus it's got jennifer ellison in it, oh man she's so sexy.
Very poor horror film

As far as horror films go this is a terrible one. There is no building of suspense, no jumpy moments, no unnerving music, basically nothing that you would expect to find in any other horror film. There is a good splattering of gore and that is about it, the 'dangerous killer' is also not the least bit scary and is actually funny to look at.
There are some funny bits in the film though, mostly in the conversations between the two brothers (Andy Serkis, who is excellent as always, and Reece Shearsmith).
Jennifer Ellison is the most annoying character in any film ever, her character is supposed to be annoying, but it was to such a level that I began to hate her as a person, and I don't mean by that that she played the character well. She barely does anything but shout, scream and turn the air blue every other word, it was pathetic acting, and that is being kind.
The two stars are there purely beacause the film made me laugh a couple of times, otherwise it would have got a one because it was actually a really boring film. Despite what it says on the box with positive reviews (god knows what those people were on when they went to see the film) I cannot recommend this as a horror film in any way, shape or form.

Next time you see a sign saying that, you should heed the warning...this is something our characters fail to do and so find themselves in a battle for their lives with one crazy farmer, this film has a decent storyline, plenty of gore and the odd few comic moments...it's worth a watch.
Nasty

When you see 'torture porn' such as hostel and saw, you see them for contrite pieces of superviolence that they are. Modern day cinema nasties. The cottage seems to think its different. It incorporates laughs with lashings of gore. Problem is-the laughs are mediocre and the gore is piled on. If it were alot funnier then it would be more excusable. But instead we have a film that is nasty in places.
Do we really want to watch others being tortured in the name of entertainment? Whether its for laughs of not, The Cottage does not makes this level of violence acceptable. Mediocre yet brutal.
One of the British best horror movies of 2008...apparently

I hate it when you have what can only be construed as lies printed all over the front of a DVD box, making large claims that films are absolutely awesome, when they're not. Enter The Cottage, which claims to be one of the best British films for a long time. It just isn't. It's an averagely funny, averagely gory, completely predictable popcorn flick, in which Jennifer Ellison doesn't even get her knockers out.
Don't waste your money...

Bassically it's a horror/comedy that's not funny, with a poor storyline and an even worse ending!
