This film is amazin, I was gripped gr8 storyline the character of kira is awesome .. the plot .. twists .. all excellently done .. The film is not in english but with the accent it is easy to read sub titles and watch movie at same time .. I find that with other foreign language films like .rec it can be challengin to stay 100% focused .. rec is rubbish by the way don't buy it .. This is a keeper for me and can't wait to watch the 2nd one ..

Honestly nothing compares to this, the twists the turns, the imagination of the writers, its a great film, you cannot deny that, even my girlfriend who hates anything like this or anime related, fully enjoyed it, and we are both waiting for number 2, it was very well done, and i suggest people buy it, you cannot put a price on the film, or the "death note" case it comes in, so even if you havent heard of the film, the mini book explains it all, and the characters.
Amazing film.
Well worth such a purchase alone.

A friend suggested that this was a ..hmm politely translated "Very bad"

He is an avid Anime fan..I think too much that it blinds him from looking outside his little Hard core anime Box.

I doubt he will ever be able to appreciate a Film for being a film in it's own right (although I agree with his nasty views on the resident evil films so slightly hypocritical of me sorry..haha).

Back to the point! - I really enjoyed this film, it never got boring making me want to look away or day dream, the presentation and general structure of the story was well set out from the very start to very end.

Have the sequel on preorder and cannot wait to get it delivered!

If you are not up to speed with the Anime/Manga then don't worry neither was my Girlfriend but she loved the film saying it was:

"Refreshing that it wasn't another Ring clone or American butchering of a over-milked genre"

No regrets!

This is great and worth checking out the only bad part is that it has English subs but after ten minutes you get use to it. Also the limited edition packaging is cool how it's the actual death note.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Expecting But Good Film None The Less.

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

This film was a good film, well i enjoyed it. It wasn't what i expecting due to the fact that half of the shots that were in the trailer weren't actually in the film but it was still good. The Cinematography was great and i especially liked the change in Light's character, when he got obsessed with the power.
I expected the film to be confusing due to the fact i don't really enjoy manga comics a lot, but it was easy to understand and follow as a film.

I can't really comment on the acting, because of the language barrier the acting is a lot different to each culture. I'd recommend the film to anyone who enjoys Tartan Asia / Chinese films or Comics. I enjoyed it and though that it was a great comic to film transformation and am looking forward to the second edition when ever that'll be released over here.

3.5 star film
5 star product (great offer with the book and looks great)

4 star overall.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Amazing. Shame about the UK release subs....

Amazing film. Always been a big fan of death note, and I have had a copy of this film before from a different region. The English subs were so much better on my other copy! The subs on the UK release are changed so its obviously not what the are saying, and they make it much more 'English style, comic' than the film should be (and is without the subs). I can't stand dubs, but a lot of UK release films recently have bad subs as well. Some of the film does not make as much sense as it should do with better translations, it is much less funny, and less detailed (very annoying for this type of plot). For example changing normal lines such as 'the name of your supervisor' to 'the name of your leader' and 'I'm like there god' to much more English and lame 'im their hero'. My better examples would ruin the storyline (key thing with light's girl friend), but my rant was worth it. So annoying! Still an amazing film though. I'm off to learn Japanese.....

Death Note has excelled in Japan in both the manga and the anime, but the movie blows you away. It plays havoc with your mind at the intelligence these teenagers have and their suspicions of one another. It's quite a lengthy film, but they all are nowadays, and you'll be too busy keeping up with the awesome plot to notice the time flying by. The story has been well thought out and if you want to stimulate your mind some more give the manga a shot!

I am a great fan of Death Note and looked forward to getting this, having already seen all 3 Death Note movies on the internet I knew what to espect however there was one thing I didn't count on.
This movie is not in English, unlike reviews of people seeing it at the cinema saying that it used the english voice actors from the anime this one does not, instead you are left with Japanese speech and English subs.
This does not mean that you shouldn't buy it, many people hate the English voice actors so this if for them.
The case is awsome, resembling a small death note complete with 2 pages worth of rules, 2 pages of lined writing paper and the rest containing information on all character and interviews.

Well worth the purchase for Death Note fans and those who do note mind reading subtitles, hopefully the sales are good enough to release the rest or maybe release the ones with English Voices.
